I'M ENGAGED!!!

Mark popped the question yesterday at one of our special places - a bench in the park in a quiet glade of trees overlooking the lake. He put a bandanna around Shad's neck that said "Please marry my daddy" and when I stood up to hug him after he put the ring on my finger, he pointed out where he'd carved our names in the bench. He had me fill in the carving with a marker and told me he'd gone over that morning to do it so that we would always remember the exact spot he asked me. We have had lots of long talks on that bench, mostly about our relationship, so it was incredibly meaningful. It was really sweet and romantic and the ring is perfect.
Things feel the same and different at the same time. I'm so happy. I didn't anticipate being this ecstatic about getting married, but I guess you really do know when things are right.

Hope everyone else is enjoying their long weekend as much as we are!

Are they serious about making a Hairspray remake with John Travolta? That's about the worst idea I've ever heard.

It is 2006 and abortion is now illegal in South Dakota, even in cases of rape and incest. How did we just take such a huge step back?

I just managed to break my toe while making a tuna sandwich. I really think I must have an inner ear problem, being this much of a klutz isn't natural.

In case you're curious, olives, celery and just enough mayo so it sticks together.

My van Gogh

This was my final exam in the Painting I class I took my senior year of college. I'd meant to go back and get it, but I never did. It was the only painting of mine that wasn't completely awful and I kinda liked it. Today, when I went to my father's office I noticed it hanging on the wall. Apparently my painting prof had saved it and took it by my dad's office a few weeks ago. It's now hanging in its proper place- my bathroom, just above the toilet.

My life’s blossom might have bloomed on all sides
Save for a bitter wind which stunted my petals
On the side of me which you in the village could see.
From the dust I lift a voice of protest:
My flowering side you never saw!
Ye living ones, ye are fools indeed
Who do not know the ways of the wind
And the unseen forces
That govern the processes of life.

On my RI trip, I fell down (broke) some stairs and injured my knee.
Sunday, I tried out my brother's hammock and somehow managed a slow-motion spin that landed me flat on my ass.
This afternoon, I tripped in my bedroom, landed on my injured knee and gave myself a rug burn on my right elbow.

I think, subconciously, I'm trying to kill myself. :(

It's all true.

Your Birthdate: August 16

Your birth on the 16th day of the month gives a sense of loneliness and generally the desire to work alone.

You are relatively inflexible, and insist on your being independent.

You need a good deal of time to rest and to meditate.

You are introspective and a little stubborn.

Because of this, it may not be easy for you to maintain permanent relationships, but you probably will as you are very much into home and family.

This birth day inclines to interests in the technical, the scientific, and to the religious or the unknown realm of spiritual explorations.

The date gives you a tendency to seek unusual approaches and makes your style seem a little different and unique to those around you.

Your intuition is aided by the day of your birth, but most of your actions are bedded in logic, responsibility, and the rational approach.

You may be emotional, but have a hard time expressing these emotions.

Because of this, there may be some difficulty in giving or receiving affection.

What Does Your Birth Date Mean?

I'm thinking about driving to Mustang Island on Friday, just for the day. Lying in the sun on the sand for a few hours is just what I need. I'm going to have to go alone, no one else seems to have Fridays off.

"If it's right you can tell" echos Myron like a siren
With endurance like the liberty bell
And he tells you of the dreamers
But he's cracked up like the road
And he'd like to lift us up, but we're a very heavy load
And we're finally here and shit yeah, it's cool
and shouldn't it be - or something like that

Sometimes I just want to gush with all this incredible joy I have in me lately, but I'm afraid that if I acknowledge it, it will somehow cease to exist. Or that once put into words, it won't seem as incredible.
